If you’re a marketer, no doubt you’ve heard the term “Content is King”. But, where did the phrase stem from?

We can thank Bill Gates for that. He penned an essay in 1996 with that very title. In it, he stated:

“Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet…”

This still holds true to this day.

However, content isn’t just for marketers or the likes of Bill Gates. It’s for anyone who wants to build an audience, a following, build trust, and establish credibility.

Content gives entrepreneurs the ability to engage with their audience, to inform and interact. It gives you a customer centric business and the opportunity to attract customers rather than infringe upon them.

Content marketing is key to increasing quality leads, conversion rates, and sales. If 40 is the new 30, then content marketing is the new black.

However, not everyone is comfortable developing content. Many don’t even know what to do or where to start. They won’t blog if they’re not comfortable writing. They won’t do video if they don’t feel comfortable on camera. They won’t do audio such as Podcasts if they don’t feel comfortable with how they sound when recorded.

Here’s some advice to help you get over your content creation consternation:

  • If you’re not comfortable or confident when it comes to writing, hire a copywriter such as myself. Yea, yea. I know… shameless. Or, use a virtual writing assistant such as Grammarly. Jot down your thoughts, and ask a friend with better writing skills to edit it for you. Another trick: Google Docs has a voice-to-text feature when using Chrome so you can speak a document into reality, which you can edit and post.

Still freaked out about content? Just start creating it and repurpose it so you basically only need to do it once.

  • Create a blog post that can turn into a lead magnet.

There are so many ways to break through fears and confusion over content creation.

The key is to just start somewhere.
