How to Find the Right Mentor

Every successful entrepreneur has a good mentor or coach. In my opinion, everyone should have one. You can’t go it alone, nor should you. We all need someone who will help us build our business, achieve certain life goals, see our blindspots; provide guidance, insight, feedback, some tough love, and inspiration - someone who gives us the support we need to grow and prosper in life or business.

The coaching industry has exploded in the past several years. There is seemingly a coach for everything. According to IBIS World, this year the US business coaching industry is worth an estimated $11.6 BILLION. A recent ICF report conducted by PwC suggests that global coaching market value crossed $2.4 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow annually by 6%.

One of the reasons for this boom in the coaching industry is very little training involved. If you are an expert at something, then you could call yourself a coach or mentor. It also doesn’t take much to set up shop. And, with COVID, more and more people took the leap into digital entrepreneurship and creating an online coaching business.

Another reason for the boom: lack of regulation and oversight. Anyone who’s figured out how to grow their Instagram following can call themselves a “coach” or “mentor”. The bar is pretty low. There aren’t any formal training, licensing, certification, or education…
